HA1 Task1- Technical Glossary

VECTOR IMAGES- A vector image is an image that is made up of lines, points, curves and shapes that are all based on mathematical expressions. The image when zoomed in is very clean and clear and is very appealing to the eye. The image on the right shows how when you zoom in on the image the lines are still straight and appealing. This shows it’s a vector image and not a bitmap image as a bitmap image would be blocky and made up of squares.

RASTER IMAGES- A raster image is made up of pixels commonly referred to as Bitmap. The picture when zoomed in can be very blocky and doesn’t look the best of graphics. Although the image when its small looks very clean and the edges look smooth we can see that when we zoom in they become blurry and when you zoom in further they become blocks. You wouldn’t notice the pixels if you were just looking at the image until you zoom in and the picture becomes blurred and blocky.

THE PIXEL- A pixel is one single point of an image, there is thousands or millions of pixels arranged in rows and columns so close together that they look connected. The smaller the pixels the more there are and the better quality the picture looks. As you can see on the right, the picture zoomed out looks very good but the zoomed in image shows its pixelated and looks different from close, this is how you know it’s not a vector image.
Sites Used:

COLOUR DEPTH- Colour depth is also known as bit depth is the bits used to indicate colour of single pixels. It is also the number of bits used for each colour component of a single pixel.

COLOUR MODELS- A colour model is simply a way to define colour, a model describes how the colour appears on paper or on a computer screen. The three most popular are CMYK, RGB, Lab Colour.

RESOLUTION- Resolution is measured by the number of pixels horizontally by pixels vertically. When resolution increases images become crisper due to a higher pixel density.

ANTI-ALIASING-
Antialiasing is the smoothing of the image or sound roughness caused by aliasing. With images you can adjust pixel positions or setting pixel intensities.

ASPECT RATIO-
Aspect ratio is an image projection attribute that describes the proportional relationship between the width of an image and its height.
